who held hands with someone who took their last breath today…

who resisted screaming at someone whose dumb decisions led them to the hospital bed…

who did the right thing for the patient and pissed off everyone in the process…

who had to choose whether to pee or eat…

who stimulated a dead heart to start beating again…

who watched a young person pass away and then went home and had to act “normal”…

who administered chemo and then patiently held the pink basin and offered a wet washcloth…

who intubated our world’s tiniest patients that aren’t supposed to be here yet…

who were called bitches for saying “no more dilaudid”…

who had to notify next of kin…

who said something hilarious that made a patient laugh…

who put a bandaid on a scraped knee at an elementary school …

who brought donuts to work because they thought their coworkers needed a pick me up…

who gave their sweatshirt to a patient with no home to be discharged to…

who took their naprosyn, iced their knees, and went in for a 12 hour shift without a single complaint…

who kept someone from falling…

who counseled…

who hugged…

who helped a new mom with her first successful latch on…

who had to take care of the biggest meanest patient all week just because they’re a “murse”…

who cared for someone famous and couldn’t. tell. a. soul…

who got poop on their new clogs…

who made my job easier and way more fun just by being awesome…
